Rajasthan Royals (RR) managed to secure just four wins in IPL 2025 under the guidance of head coach Rahul Dravid. Throughout the season, Rahul Dravid caught the attention of fans and commentators alike by frequently jotting down notes in the dugout during matches.
Rahul Dravid: RR wrapped up their campaign on a positive note, clinching a six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Delhi in their final league match.
After winning the toss, RR captain Sanju Samson chose to bowl first. CSK’s middle order faltered, with Devon Conway, Urvil Patel, R. Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja struggling to make an impact. However, Ayush Mhatre provided a spark with a blistering 43 off 20 deliveries, including eight boundaries and a six. Valuable contributions from Dewald Brevis (42 off 25), Shivam Dube (39), and MS Dhoni (16) helped CSK post a total of 187/8. RR’s bowling was spearheaded by Yudhvir Singh and Akash Madhwal, both claiming three wickets each.
In response, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave RR a fiery start, scoring 36 off just 19 balls before falling to Anshul Kamboj. Vaibhav Suryavanshi then took charge, forging a 98-run partnership with Sanju Samson (41), while scoring 57 off 33 balls, including three sixes and three fours.
Dhruv Jurel sealed the win in the 18th over with an unbeaten 31 off just 12 balls, as RR chased down the target comfortably, finishing at 188/4. R. Ashwin was the standout bowler for CSK with two wickets.
Despite the strong finish, RR ended their IPL 2025 campaign with only four wins from 14 matches, suffering ten losses and accumulating a total of eight points.
“I just have my own way of scoring a game,” said Rahul Dravid when asked about what he’s been writing in the dugout.

One of the biggest curiosities around the IPL this season has been what Dravid, the Rajasthan Royals coach, has been jotting down during matches. Now, he’s openly revealed the truth: he’s meticulously keeping score.
“I have a specific method for scoring both T20 and one-day games. It helps me review the match later on. While I could just look at the official scorecard, I prefer to score it in my own way. This makes it easier and more comfortable for me to analyze the game without needing the standard scorecard.
After a game ends, when I’m alone in my room wanting to review specific overs or key moments, my unique scoring format really helps me analyze the match better, Rahul Dravid explained in a video. Unlike the traditional scorecard, his method is tailored to break down the game in a way that’s more convenient for him.
Dravid emphasized that there’s nothing complicated or groundbreaking about it. “It’s not rocket science or some big revelation,” he said. “I’m not jotting down incidents or stories — just the scores. This simple approach helps me stay connected to the game and makes it easier to revisit and understand the match later on.” For him, this personalized system enhances his ability to reflect on performances without overwhelming details, allowing a clearer, focused review of the cricket action.
