Suryakumar Yadav Downplays India-Pakistan Rivalry After Dominant Win

India captain Suryakumar Yadav downplayed the on-field rivalry with Pakistan following his side’s emphatic six-wicket victory in the Asia Cup Super Four stage. Highlighting India’s supremacy in head-to-head encounters, he remarked that the contest can no longer be considered a true rivalry. The Men in Blue have stamped their authority over Salman Ali Agha’s side in both Asia Cup meetings, with Pakistan struggling to match India’s intensity with bat or ball in one-sided encounters.
India’s dominance in T20Is was further solidified, pushing their Asia Cup head-to-head record to 12-3, reflecting the clear gulf in quality between the teams.
Speaking after the match, Suryakumar Yadav said, “You guys should stop asking questions about the rivalry between India-Pakistan. According to me, if the two teams are playing 15-20 games, and the scoreline is 7-7 or 8-7, then it is called a rivalry. 10-0, 10-1, I don’t know what the stat is, but this is not a rivalry anymore. I think we played better cricket than them, and also from a bowling point of view.”
Pakistan no match to India in T20Is
Since the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022, India have maintained complete supremacy over Pakistan in white-ball cricket, securing seven consecutive wins. The streak underscores India’s consistency and dominance, with their deep batting lineup and disciplined bowling repeatedly overwhelming their arch-rivals.
On Sunday, Pakistan gained some momentum early, reaching 91/1 in 10 overs, aided by a couple of dropped catches. However, India’s bowlers regained control in the second half, restricting Pakistan to 171/5—about 20 runs short of a potentially winning total.
Chasing the target, Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill dismantled the Pakistan attack, putting together a 105-run opening partnership in just 9.5 overs. Sharma was the standout, scoring 74 off 39 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Tilak Varma (30* off 19 balls) and Hardik Pandya (7*) saw India home with seven balls to spare, completing another dominant victory over their arch-rivals.
