“SRH Bowler Who Cancelled Honeymoon for IPL 2025 Leaves Commentators ‘Confused’ by Bowling with Both Arms Against KKR”

The SRH newcomer made history as the first ambidextrous bowler to take a wicket in IPL tournament history.

Kamindu Mendis Makes History as First Ambidextrous Bowler to Take a Wicket in IPL 2025

SRH

In their IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) introduced a unique bowling option. Kamindu Mendis, in his debut IPL appearance, became the first ambidextrous bowler to take a wicket in the tournament’s history. Known for his ability to bowl both left-arm orthodox and right-arm off-spin, Mendis stunned fans and commentators when he bowled with both arms in a single over. After dismissing Angkrish Raghuvanshi with his left arm, he switched to his right arm to get rid of Venkatesh Iyer shortly after his half-century.

Commentator Pommie Mbangwa remarked, “He bowled accurately with both arms. But it is confusing for a batter, isn’t it?”

Kamindu Mendis, who was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 75 lakhs in the November auction, showed his commitment to the IPL by canceling his honeymoon. Despite recently marrying his long-time girlfriend, Nishni, Mendis chose to travel to India for the tournament. His wedding planner, Pathum Gunawardana, confirmed, “Both are on a short honeymoon at Haputale. They have not gone on an overseas honeymoon because the player is committed to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and will begin his training soon.”

KKR register big win over SRH

Kolkata Knight Riders’ middle order finally delivered as Iyer silenced his critics with a rapid 25-ball fifty, while Raghuvanshi struck a fluent half-century to guide KKR to a competitive 200/6. Despite a poor start with new openers Quinton de Kock (1) and Sunil Narine (7) falling cheaply, an 81-run partnership between skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Raghuvanshi steadied the innings.

Impact Sub Vaibhav Arora was the standout performer, claiming 3/29, while KKR’s new-ball bowlers dismantled SRH’s top order, removing Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan in the first three overs. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy (3/22) and Sunil Narine (1/30) maintained control in the middle overs. SRH were bowled out for just 120 in 16.4 overs, with KKR winning by 80 runs.
