Yuzvendra Chahal has claimed 14 wickets in 12 matches in IPL 2025 so far. However, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been dealt a significant setback as their star spinner is currently dealing with an injury concern. Yuzvendra Chahal was notably absent from the recent clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, having been rested due to a niggle.
PBKS went on to lose the match by six wickets. Speaking at the post-match press conference, assistant coach Sunil Joshi confirmed that Yuzvendra Chahal was sidelined as a precautionary measure. His absence was clearly felt, as PBKS failed to defend a formidable total of 206/8, with the DC batters dominating the chase.
In Yuzvendra Chahal place, Praveen Dubey was brought into the playing XI. He managed to take one wicket but proved expensive, conceding 20 runs in just two overs at an economy rate of 10.0.

PBKS assistant coach Joshi has not disclosed specific details about Yuzvendra Chahal injury. However, the spinner’s fitness remains a concern for the team as they aim to secure a top-two finish in the league stage. So far, four teams have qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs — Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), Mumbai Indians (MI), and PBKS. All of them are still in contention for a top-two finish, which would boost their chances of making it to the final.
Currently, GT and PBKS occupy the top two positions on the points table with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Notably, this marks PBKS’s first playoff appearance in 10 seasons.
