Mohammed Shami was sidelined from the England Test series due to ongoing fitness concerns. However, the veteran Indian pacer is now gearing up for a return to competitive cricket. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Mohammed Shami has been included in Bengal’s extended list of 50 probables for the upcoming domestic season.
Mohammed Shami was initially expected to be part of India’s squad for the Test series against England. But after failing to clear the fitness assessments, he was ruled out. He did appear for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), but his performances were far from his best.
Since the conclusion of IPL 2025, the senior fast bowler has been working hard to regain full fitness. He is also likely to represent East Zone in the season-opening Duleep Trophy, scheduled to begin on August 28.
Mohammed Shami has been battling injury issues ever since the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Shami was then named in the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he played a crucial role in India’s title-winning campaign. He finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker for the team alongside Varun Chakravarthy, with both bowlers picking up nine wickets in three matches. He also featured in the IPL, though with modest returns—scalping six wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 11.23.
His return to domestic cricket is expected to provide a significant boost for India. Mohammed Shami absence has been notably felt during the current tour of England, and his presence will be vital for the upcoming fixtures in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle.
In addition to Mohammed Shami the list of probables for Bengal includes Abhimanyu Easwaran, Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Abishek Porel.
