Mark Wood: With the Test series against India approaching, there has been much speculation about whether Wood will be fit to play. The bowler has been working hard to make a comeback, but as of now, there is still no definite clarity on his participation.
Chief selector Luke Wright provided an update on Mark Wood’s recovery, describing the fast bowler as being on the right track. Speaking to Sky Sports, Wright said:

“I think Woody has now started bowling lightly. He’s just a few steps off full pace, but that’s a very positive sign. He’s definitely on the road to recovery. I see him as more of a long-term prospect—if we can get him back, he could be an option for the fourth or fifth Test. Every day he’s ticking off progress and making sure he’s fit.”
If declared fit, Mark Wood is expected to play a crucial role for England in the Test series. He has taken 119 wickets in 37 Tests at an average of 30.4. It remains to be seen whether he will participate in the latter stages of the series.
Meanwhile, Mark Wood, England recently announced their squad for the first Test against India. The team will be led by captain Ben Stokes, with the return of Chris Woakes and Jamie Overton. Gus Atkinson and Jofra Archer have been ruled out of the match.
