Following the enactment of the new Online Gaming Bill, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has terminated its INR 358 crore sponsorship deal with fantasy gaming platform Dream11. This means the Indian cricket team will now need to secure a new jersey and title sponsor.
Under the recently passed Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, any online game involving money—whether based on skill, chance, or a combination—is prohibited from being offered, operated, or facilitated. The law also imposes strict restrictions on promoting or advertising such games across all media channels.
Additionally, the legislation restricts financial transactions related to these games. Banks and payment systems are explicitly barred from processing payments for online gaming. To reinforce enforcement, the Information Technology Act of 2000 empowers authorities to block access to illegal gaming platforms. Banks are reported to have already acted to prevent financial support for gambling operators, effectively cutting off their funding channels.
BCCI and Dream11 End INR 358 Crore Partnership

The BCCI has officially confirmed the termination of the partnership. “BCCI and Dream11 are discontinuing their relationship following the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. Going forward, BCCI will ensure it does not engage with such organizations,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
Both parties mutually agreed to end the agreement. With the new law prohibiting the promotion of fantasy gaming, it was necessary for Dream11 and Indian cricket’s governing body to terminate the sponsorship. The parent company, which promotes real-money gaming, also shares responsibility in this decision.
In 2023, BCCI and Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11, had signed a three-year uniform sponsorship deal.
With the Asia Cup approaching on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates, the Indian cricket team could be without a shirt sponsor unless the BCCI finalizes a new deal within the next two weeks.
