Nitish Kumar Reddy Ruled Out as Injuries Hit India Ahead of Manchester Test
India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to a left knee injury. He will take no further part in the last two Tests as India, led by Shubman Gill, trails 1-2 in the five-match series.
The visitors’ injury woes worsened as pacer Arshdeep Singh, yet to debut in Tests, was ruled out of the upcoming Manchester Test after sustaining an impact injury to his left thumb during a training session in Beckenham.
“The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” the board said in a statement.
To bolster the squad, the Men’s Selection Committee has added Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj, who has already joined the team in the UK.
India trailing in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
The Shubman Gill-led Indian team suffered a narrow 22-run loss in the Lord’s Test, slipping to 1-2 in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. Despite Ravindra Jadeja’s valiant effort to revive India from 112/8 while chasing 193, Shoaib Bashir dismissed Mohammed Siraj to seal the game for England.
Throughout the series, India has relied on a three-all-rounder combination — Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. However, Reddy’s injury has disrupted the balance, forcing the management to rethink their approach ahead of the Manchester Test.
Kuldeep Yadav’s inclusion is under consideration as he is yet to feature in the series. Karun Nair’s underwhelming form could lead to changes, with Sai Sudharsan possibly being tried at No. 3 after his early omission. Additionally, Dhruv Jurel could come in as wicketkeeper if Rishabh Pant is deemed unfit to take the gloves.
