Virender Sehwag has expressed confidence in India’s chances at the Asia Cup 2025, highlighting that the team boasts the perfect blend of youth and experience. The former India opener also praised Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership, saying the Men in Blue are well-equipped to dominate the tournament once again.
Suryakumar Yadav will captain India in the Asia Cup, leading a squad that includes seasoned players like Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. Surya assumed the T20I captaincy last year following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the shortest format.
The right-handed batsman has an impressive record as captain, guiding India to 17 wins in 22 T20Is, with only four losses and one match ending in a tie. As defending champions, India will aim to secure their second consecutive Asia Cup title in 2025.
“I have no doubt India can lift the trophy,” says Virender Sehwag

“This Indian team strikes the perfect balance between youth and experience. Under Surya’s bold leadership, they have the potential to dominate Asia once again. His attacking mindset is tailor-made for T20 cricket, and if the team maintains that intent, I am certain India can lift the trophy,” Sehwag said.
Reflecting on his own Asia Cup experiences, Sehwag shared the excitement of playing in front of passionate fans.
“One of my fondest memories is walking into the dressing room on match days and feeling the buzz even before stepping onto the field. You could hear the chants, feel the energy everywhere. I’d tell my teammates – today, we’re not just playing a match, we’re giving the fans a day they’ll never forget,” he recalled.
India have been placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong.
India’s campaign begins on September 10 against the UAE, followed by the high-profile clash with Pakistan on September 14, and a match against Oman on September 19. The Asia Cup 2025 final will be held in Dubai on September 28.
